The long trek to Everest
The long and lonely trail to the base of Everest
Everest still towers high above, even at 3.5 miles
This peak -- Ama Dablam -- struck me as the most beautiful classic peak I had ever seen
It stands out perfectly in the waning light
The sun's last rays hitting the peak of Everest
Venus and Jupiter above the craggy Himalayas
Stars over Everest
A faint glow in the west illuminates Everest below a blanket of stars
Near Everest base camp, with the Khumbu icefall spilling out of the valley below the mountain
Everest peaking over the nearby hills
Back down the valley
A simple shepherd's hut on a ledge above Khumbu valley
Apparently, this guy thinks he's a horse
Tengboche monastery
The dharma wheel admired by two deer
An enormous prayer wheel
One last view of Everest
A lonely helicopter heads from Namche to Lukla at the end of the day
As I drop in elevation, the trees and warmth return
The record of visits to the Everest valley. They've done well since the Maoists calmed down.
